Coin Care: Essential Tips for Coin Collectors
Taking Care of Your Coin Collection

Taking care of your coin collection is crucial for preserving its value and quality. Here are some tips to help you maintain your coins:

Use Cotton Gloves

Your skin has oils and dirt that can harm your coins. Always wear cotton gloves when handling them to protect their finish and value. Avoid latex or plastic gloves, as they can have powders or lubricants that might damage your coins.

Hold Coins Properly

When picking up coins, always hold them by the edges with your thumb and forefinger. Never touch the front or back surfaces of the coin directly. If you're worried about dropping a coin, hold it over a soft towel to cushion any falls. And try not to talk directly over your coins, as tiny drops of saliva can leave stubborn spots.

Cleaning Coins

Unless you're an expert, it's best not to clean your coins. Even wiping them with a soft cloth can damage their finish and decrease their value.

Displaying Coins

For valuable gold or silver collector coins, use small plastic bags or sealed plastic cases that are PVC-free. For less valuable coins, you can store them in acid-free paper sleeves, envelopes, tubes, folders, or albums.
